SUA and the United Nations

The Syriac Universal Alliance has since 1999 a consultative status with the economic and the Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC). Therefore SUA may send delegates to the meetings of the ECOSOC in Geneva, Vienna and New York.

The Main representative to Geneva, Mr. Gabriel Sengo, has attended in July and august this year to the meeting of the Indigenous Populations and the meeting of the Sub-Commission on the protection and the promotion of the human rights.

Here below, a few of activities displayed by Mr. Sengo during his stay in Geneva will be presented:

1. Mr. Sengo sent a written statement to the Sub-Commission to ask their attention to the situation of our people world wide. This statement can be found at the website of the United Nations : http://www.unhchr.ch/Huridocda/Huridoca.nsf/(Symbol)/E.CN.4.Sub.2.2002.NGO.8.En?Opendocument

2. Beside this written statement, Mr. Sengo prepared another statement and distributed among the delegates. This statement can be found at: www.aramnaharaim.org/SubCommiosion_NGO_2002.pdf

Of this statement 250 copies were made and distributed among the delegates during the meeting of the indigenous populations. Of the same document 180 copies were made and distributed among the representatives of countries and organisations during the meeting of the Sub-commission.

3. Mr. Sengo also contacted many delegates and other organisations to explain them the situation of the Aramean (Syriac) people worldwide. Many of this organisations expressed their sympathy towards the Aramean (Syriac) people.

4. Mr. Sengo also contacted peoples of the office of the UN concerning the NGO to inform them the situation of our people etc.. etc...
